February 3, 2016 (Hoover, AL) – Hoover Boys Lacrosse is proud to announce that senior midfielder Braden McCombs has signed on to play lacrosse at Birmingham-Southern. In an on-field ceremony Wednesday evening, McCombs was surrounded by family, coaches and teammates as he officially agreed to become part of the Birmingham-Southern recruiting class for 2016. After the ceremony Hoover Head Coach Conor Conway has this to say, “The Hoover coaching staff is very proud of Braden. He has worked extremely hard these past 4 years, and has become an outstanding student athlete. You could not ask for a better leader and teammate. We are looking forward to watching Braden excel on and off the field at Birmingham-Southern.”

McCombs is a 4-year Varsity player for Hoover, as well as a multi-season player for Bamalax, one of the premier travel lacrosse programs in Alabama. As a freshman player for Hoover, Braden was the recipient of the Coaches’ Hustle Award for his toughness and tenacity. As a sophomore Braden was again recognized, this time as the Bucs Most-Improved Player. Braden, or “B” as he’s known, then went on to lead the team in groundballs during his junior campaign, while also finishing in the top 3 on the team in points with a total of 31. B was also honored earlier this season when he was selected by his teammates as captain; a position he also earned last year.

While McCombs is no doubt looking forward to continuing his lacrosse career, his next head coach is equally enthusiastic about B heading to the Hilltop. BSC Head Men's Lacrosse Coach Casey Kear:
“I am extremely excited to welcome Braden McCombs to the Birmingham-Southern College lacrosse family. I have no doubt that Braden's toughness and high lacrosse IQ will translate to both personal and team success here at BSC.  Most importantly Braden is a dedicated student athlete who will be a leader to his peers for 4 years”

McCombs' choice to join Coach Kear’s Panther squad appears to be a great one. Last season, Coach Kear was voted as the Southern Athletic Association conference Coach of the Year. And in just his second year at the helm, Kear has lead the Panthers to back-to-back winning seasons and trips to the semifinals of the SAA Championship.

The Hoover Boys Lacrosse family is proud of Braden and look forward to watching him during his senior season and are we are all confident that B will succeed both on-the-field and off as a student-athlete at Birmingham-Southern.

About Hoover Boys Lacrosse
The 2016 season marks the 10th Anniversary of Hoover Lacrosse. The program was founded and first coached by Chris Cos in 2006. Under Cos’ leadership the team quickly rose to compete at a high level – winning three straight Alabama State Championships in 2008, 2009, 2010, and then adding their state-record fourth title in 2013. Hoover Lacrosse has fielded 3 US Lacrosse All Americans, and had over 30 players go on to play in college (DI, DII, DIII & club). Hoover’s Varsity Head Coach now is the former Bucs defenseman Conor Conway. The Hoover Boys Lacrosse program is part of the Greater Birmingham Youth Lacrosse Association – and also has a club at Hoover High School.
